Hi, I'm Jess, the photographer and creative behind Jessica Smith Visual Arts.

I'm a Quad Cities photographer based in Geneseo, Illinois, specializing in wedding photography, engagement sessions, family photography, maternity, senior portraits, boudoir, and creative portraits throughout the Quad Cities and surrounding Illinois and Iowa communities.

My photography journey began in 2017 as a hobby, rooted in a lifelong passion for art, storytelling, and creating meaningful work. At the time, I was building my career as a graphic designer while photographing friends and families on the side. As my love for photography continued to grow, I realized it wasn't just a creative outlet it was becoming my true passion.

I graduated from St. Ambrose University with a Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, along with additional studies in painting and bookmaking. Those experiences continue to influence my photography today, shaping the way I use light, color, texture, composition, and emotion to create photographs that feel intentional and artistic.

In 2024, after welcoming my son in 2023, everything changed. I made the decision to step away from my graphic design career so I could stay home with him while pursuing photography full-time. What started as a hobby quickly became the career I had always been searching for. Photography isn't simply what I do it's how I connect with people, tell stories, and preserve the moments that matter most.

Although I'm originally from Geneseo, Illinois, I spend much of my time photographing clients throughout Davenport, Bettendorf, Moline, Rock Island, East Moline, Silvis, Muscatine, Galesburg, and the surrounding Quad Cities area. Whether I'm documenting a wedding, photographing a growing family, celebrating a graduating senior, or creating an artistic portrait session, I love meeting people wherever their story takes them.

My editing style is moody, vibrant, mute and rich in contrast, with intentional color, subtle grain, and timeless tones that create photographs full of depth and emotion. Every image is carefully edited by hand to reflect the feeling of the moment while staying true to my artistic style.

One thing you'll quickly learn about me is that I genuinely care about creating a relaxed experience. Most people tell me they're nervous in front of a camera, but that's exactly why I guide you through every session. I'll help with posing while also encouraging movement, conversation, and genuine interaction so your photographs feel natural instead of forced.

I believe the best images happen when you can simply be yourself.

My goal has never been to create perfect photographs. My goal is to create photographs that feel like you real, emotional, and filled with the moments you'll want to remember for years to come.
